Pot growers north of triplet ridge

About this time last year, I encountered an individual while descending into the upper reaches of Bear Creek near the Twin Peaks saddle branch: https://eispiraten.com/w ... t6411.html Still curious about the area and wanting to explore possible alternatives to reaching triplet rocks, I descended the...

Dima's recent trip report jogged my memory of an unsolved mystery I encountered on my way up the north ridge of Mt Williamson: How did this get here? https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/farm1.staticflickr.com/265/19514908533_ef81025a2d_b.jpg This tire is located on the broad summit of peak 6621, ...

Re: Pallett Benchmark North ridge

Hey Dima, nice job on a long ridge up there. It sure is scenic in that area. I think the fact that it's on a pretty shady northerly aspect helps keep more open piney vegetation and less of the dense brush, although I did encounter a few manzanita patches on my excursion. Compare this to the adjacent...

Re: Ken Burton Trail

Rode my bike to the end of Brown Mt. Road this weekend and was told by a Ranger that the Ken Burton Trail is now open. He was out near the saddle to remove the "off limits" sign, but somebody had already taken it down. Looks like some mtn bikers are already starting to explore the loop. Th...

Here are some photos of visits to Brown's Flat from the 1930s or so.

Probably have to copy the link and paste it.

Re: Video – Browns Flat. Anyone make this trip recently?

Nice job! Very tough travel through dense brush. Did the "trail" used to go along the ridge top or along the side of the ridge? It looks like this fellow made it there once in 2005 for some geology field work. I guess the Williams fire had cleared some of the brush a couple of years before...

Thanks for the report, Rico. I just did the shortcut version of this loop yesterday. Went up Crescenta View Trail and came down the ridge that divides Dunsmore Canyon from Cooks Canyon. On the very upper section of Crescenta View, I followed the abandoned segment of trail that continues traversing a...

Re: East Fork Big Santa Anita Creek

Great trip report! Congratulations on completing that loop and thanks for sharing the info. To be clear, there was no trail anywhere at all the entire time, so that OSM route is clearly historical. If you're curious about the old trail, some segments of it do exist high on the canyon wall before you...

Re: Obama to designate chunk of San Gabriel Mountains a national

Interesting discussion. I think the disagreements here are perhaps more about word choice and terms than about substance. I tend to agree that if people are more directly and personally engaged with the land and the environment around them, they have more at stake and participate more in the process...

Very sad. Planned to go skiing at Mt. Waterman today, but found it closed, probably due to a death yesterday on the mountain. Things seem to soften up with the heat but can set up and freeze very quickly once the shadows come across. Be safe, all. http://www.sgvtribune.com/general-news/ ... identifi...

Nice one, guys! An impressive piece of work. It seems they would ride for a while, then b...

Fantastic trip, Dima. Now I guess I've got to attempt it. The plan was to stay next to the channel the entire time, bu...

Nice job! Certainly into the heart of the wilderness on an outing like that. Did you see any ancient, weathered and eroded cairns on or around peak 4915? On my descent of Devil's Canyon from twin peaks saddle some years ago, I took a shortcut through the flat area to the east of peak 4915, specifica...

Nice report, Dima. Thanks for the update. I've been wanting to revisit the area via that access. I'd like to get a map of their use trails before the Feds bust them. In that news clip, the site seemed to be near the drop in for skull canyon, or was it the next turnout/overlook? In either case, maybe they left a bit of a use trail there to access Devil's canyon, plus the grow has already been c...

Don't forget about the lifetime's supply of hot dogs and 'smores at the scout camp in Monrovia Canyon. Re: Western boundary of the SGM range?

That would seem to make sense as the 138 roughly follows the San Andreas zone up to the Gorman area and then the 5 comes south down a canyon system from Tejon Pass and Frazier Park, I guess that's part of Piru Creek and then Castaic Creek, though maybe tracing Piru Creek would be the more prominent ...

This is the south gully I was looking at, but it looks more difficult than the east side to me, and probably more work to get to the base. Altadena? Maybe it's the Arroyo Seco road entering near the JPL gate? Small parking area. Lots of bicycles. Paved road turning to dirt. I took a long bike ride up a road that travels along the northern aspect of the range. I haven't seen so many of these prints on one dirt road ever. Very nice! If you like that kind of thing, a nice jaunt in the area is the north side of Mt. Markham, scrambling up the rocky ridge directly from the road.
