Eastern Sierra - Inyo Range - Unlisted Mine Question?

Spotted this when driving to Union Wash, just NE of Lone Pine. Cool-looking series of terraced structures, quite prominent despite being pretty far from the road. https://goo.gl/maps/j41NTB5co4oQMXGh8 Looks like BLM property, couldn't find any claims or historical mines listed at the area - not enti...

Re: Drone Aerial Mapping

Very awesome. Have had a blast with my DJI quad.
You might see if the local SAR volunteer groups need quad operators -- there was a group looking for volunteers a while back for missing irish hiker David (https://www.pctmissing.org/david-osullivan)

Re: Google Earth Find -- Mines or otherwise?

Oh, and the buildings in the imagery are actually known to the assessor (and hence appear on the osm map). They are: https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/472888467 https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/472888201 The assessor's IDs and the building IDs are there. I doubt these are mines. Are there cattle o...

Re: Google Earth Find -- Mines or otherwise?

Thanks all. Trying to use the HuntStand app to locate property info, seems to be one of the few areas where property data not available. It's a pretty large property chunk on the app (you can see land divisions) but owner isn't pulling up, governement or otherwise. There's a FS road just to the SE, ...

Google Earth Find -- Mines or otherwise?

Came across these on the north side of the San Gabes, Wrightwood/Big Rock Creek Vicinity: 34.42635138817832, -117.75190966411165 https://goo.gl/maps/uc3XZhE8pZGW6Mop7 Looks like fairly intact old mine structures, or fairly large cabin(s)? Definitely not in the usual hiking areas, perhaps a reason fo...

It was held by a trust in the past, and the folks purchased it from them. I wonder if the trust (name is on the original post) had roots back to Stoddard himself.

Re: Tracking Down Two Lost Falls

Thanks for the great info. No visible signs of building as of yet. The signs seem to have slowed the graffiti down drastically, although there is some beyond them. Very intimidating though. "Smile, you're on camera" etc. Yes, the interaction I had was friendly aggressive. One individual w...

Re: Tracking Down Two Lost Falls

Great report! Here is info from a trip I did year back about the property situation. I was approached by two folks who claimed to have just purchased the land. They may have posted the signs ( the signs appeared from my recollection shortly after my encounter with them): viewtopic.php?p=53681#p53681...

Re: Seeking property in Cattle Canyon

Thank you for the report. Very interesting. Did you happen to see any fish back in the canyon at the creek crossings? I imagine it's too exposed for them to survive that stretch. There were military vehicles seen at the RV camp recently, did you see anything like that? The info on John Knox Portwood...

Cattle Canyon Trip

Hiked Cattle Canyon this weekend. Made it within a 1/2 mile of the gate at the end (23 creek crossings, all wet) before having to turn back due to time. Lots of people camping at the entrance, the carcass of a recently killed chicken at the first creek crossing, several folks hunting gold further ba...

Re: Hikers Rescued 4 Days After Disappearing in Mount Baldy Area

There's another article up that talks about them using their jackets as makeshift ropes to descend multiple waterfalls. They also "slid" down one waterfall, getting wet in the process (that might have been deadly). Per the article: They tried signalling a helicopter earlier on, and it look...

Anyone ever checked out Banning Canyon, east of Yucaipa, north of the 10 FWY in the San Berns?
What's the parking/access situation like?

I believe S. Fork BRC has year-round water. Very health looking creek when I was there in December, well before most of our rains

Exploring above Fish Canyon Falls?

I realize the current access is basically closed, I am not interested in trespassing, just in if this area has been explored in the past. From satellite imagery, it looks like a very interesting canyon,...
