Re: Missing forum member (Colin Walker)

I have started a WhatsApp group and compiling list of parking spots that have been checked so we don’t duplicate efforts. There are a few people out looking and we want to be efficient. If anyone here would like to be added please DM me your phone number. Thank you. Gesendet von iPhone mit Tapatalk...

Well I do feel safe to say at minimum, what you described is not what happened here.

Re: Missing man near Millard (Albert Zisook)

I was part of the search planning section all week. As tempting as it is to speculate, I suggest just being patient until an official update can be posted. Hopefully it will be soon. The only reason there has been no official update yet is because there is no definitive conclusion. As soon as we can...

It’s unusual to have a run of three within four months or so. Could just be random, but it makes one wonder if there’s any specific factors that caused it to be a hotspot.

I’m hearing he was found in Bear Creek, not quite to the Bear Canyon Trail, west of Smith Mountain (southeast of Triplets).

Breaking news. According to scanner traffic he’s just been found alive. Location not mentioned. Currently this is unconfirmed information. Please update the thread if you see any definitive information.

Re: SAR Seeking Help Identifying Location In Photo

The coordinates on the screenshot labeled 920F should be pretty a reliable location of where he was found and hoisted out. I put it on a map https://sartopo.com/m/R02A

Re: Bobcat Fire: closure info, what's open

I've more or less finished adding the trail and road closure layers from the FS Bobcat Closure order. There is some pretty obscure stuff on there, like "Pine Hollow Picnic Area Road (3N91)" which I think I found on the USGS layer by pure luck. I put a question mark after each one that invo...

Potentially due to the fact they are hosted externally and maybe your ad blocker zapped them.

Re: A bit of the aftermath

Good news. Thanks for the report! I'm not sure if it has been shared yet, but here's a CalTopo map of the closure area: https://caltopo.com/m/9KEQ I haven't checked to see how accurate it is, but it was shared by a user on ANF's Facebook page. That user was me. The map was actually Dima’s idea. So ...

Re: Bobcat Fire: closure info, what's open

It looks like this map contradicts the one in the official closure order that was circulated. See NE corner of the boundary. Right? lolol Can't see any details whatsoever. Found a better map: https://ca-times.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/f9753c5/2147483647/strip/true/crop/2530x3264 0 0/resize/840...

Re: Bobcat Fire: closure info, what's open

I transcribed the legal description from closure order into CalTopo. Please note any mistakes you may find so we can make it accurate. https://caltopo.com/m/9KEQ I made a tiny url for it too https://tinyurl.com/bobcat-closure I plan on adding the specific trail and road closures as red lines, eventu...

Re: Chasing wild geese in Big Rock Creek

Only thing I’d add is that in the most promising areas, the thorn bushes were extremely dense, so we could have been right on top of it and missed it. With basic analysis of available clues, including the accident report and maps, there are plenty of contradictions.

Gooseberry, Mt Lowe Firebreak to West Fuji; return via Lone Tree and LTP

Did a little 5 mile loop as noted in subject today. Also will include some observations I made last weekend. Trail condition is passable on all segments noted, though there are a number of places which could use maintenance. In particular, more slough removal (some work has already been done) and th...

You have 4 to 8 hours to clean the oil off your skin. If you leave it on your skin longer than that you might get itchy and/or a rash

Re: Finding the Green Moss Mine in Las Flores Canyon

The first photo isn’t clear enough to be sure, but the bush without leaves looks like it might be poison oak. Are you familiar enough with how oak looks in the winter to say?
