You fought hard for that loop, and won! "overgrown" is a very common word used in TRs right now.
I have a Boulder Canyon to Trail Canyon trek in my future, with McKinley in the middle.

Thats a big day!
What time did you start hiking?
Distance / Gain?
Thanks for the invite. Iron is an important notch on the belt of any San Gabriel explorer, and I intend to collect mine in due time! Do you think this route is best Iron Mtn loop one can do?

I've not heard of this route before and it looks quite challenging compared to the other trail/road routes. That's a nice detailed map of the route. Nate, do you make your tracks available anywhere? If not, please consider uploading them to peakbagger if you want to make them available to others. N...

Matt proposed this expedition at like 6pm the night before. He did all the right things to get me interested in joining a hike: A theoretical, never-attempted route x-country to a mysterious, obscure and unnamed feature in in the mountains that has only been seen from satellites. It’s the single bes...

Fascinating about the lunar module, I didn't know about that. So I was on the Santa Clara Divide road in December of 2021 bagging 3657, and the road was freshly (and expensively) rebuilt through that area. Honestly not sure why that much money was spent on repairing it, unless of course magic mounta...

Thats an obscure one, I salute you. I haven't accessed Magic Mountain Wilderness from the north/Soledad Canyon yet. That whole area is within the realm of the Sand Fire. Not summer-friendly!

Mt Lukens via 'Kill 'em Quick' trail and west ridge
Mt Lukens stands as one of the most sprawling and prominent mountains around Los Angeles, and at 5,074 feet, the highest point within the city limits. It is visible to 5-6 million residents on a daily basis, including myself. Mt Lukens holds the special significance of being one of the very few moun...

Nice, never hiked in the Lake Hughes area but looks like a good hike for a cloudy day. Mt Lukens is on my to-do list as well. Great hike! It's cool you could complete a loop down the steepest side. I've had some run ins with road cuts, too. Yes road cuts seem trivial, but a 10 foot cliff that stretches unbroken for a mile along a mountainside can definitely fuck up your route... Can you re-post the GIS link? I'm being laz...

Thanks for the report. Glad you found the optimum route and avoided the poison oak. Was there a register? No register, and not much of a cairn. I know you found a register in 2015, but I'm guessing it was lost in the Sand Fire the next year. The summit is pretty minimalist in every single way excep...

Definitely a memorable hike for sure! Peak 2Nate66 was very pretty and we were all perfectly content with not continuing with that sketchy rope.
