Re: Magic Mountain and Garfield Benchmark

Fascinating about the lunar module, I didn't know about that. So I was on the Santa Clara Divide road in December of 2021 bagging 3657, and the road was freshly (and expensively) rebuilt through that area. Honestly not sure why that much money was spent on repairing it, unless of course magic mounta...

Thats an obscure one, I salute you. I haven't accessed Magic Mountain Wilderness from the north/Soledad Canyon yet. That whole area is within the realm of the Sand Fire. Not summer-friendly!

Do you have a cumulative map of some kind of your adventures?

Mt Lukens via 'Kill 'em Quick' trail and west ridge

Mt Lukens stands as one of the most sprawling and prominent mountains around Los Angeles, and at 5,074 feet, the highest point within the city limits. It is visible to 5-6 million residents on a daily basis, including myself. Mt Lukens holds the special significance of being one of the very few moun...

Great flower pics!! I did that hike a couple years ago with my wife... I remember it was the first time I had ever really looked at Condor Peak before, and was like.... DANG I didn't know the western San Gabes had peaks like that! We turned around just a little before you did. Nice views of the Chri...

Awesome!

Way to represent the ice pirates by taking an off-trail shortcut. How many others competed and how did you finish? Did your unconventional route help or hurt your time?

Nice, never hiked in the Lake Hughes area but looks like a good hike for a cloudy day. Mt Lukens is on my to-do list as well. I want to come up the 'Kill 'em Quick' and follow the camel back ridge to the summit. Then probably go down one of the other trails for a point to point with quick car shuttl...

Great hike! It's cool you could complete a loop down the steepest side. I've had some run ins with road cuts, too. Yes road cuts seem trivial, but a 10 foot cliff that stretches unbroken for a mile along a mountainside can definitely fuck up your route... Can you re-post the GIS link? I'm being laz...

Thanks for the report. Glad you found the optimum route and avoided the poison oak. Was there a register? No register, and not much of a cairn. I know you found a register in 2015, but I'm guessing it was lost in the Sand Fire the next year. The summit is pretty minimalist in every single way excep...

I did that very hike Christmas Eve of 2018 when I got stuck at home all by my lonesome self for Christmas, and then came down it on a different hike November of 2022. A good little workout! Not really sure why that trailhead is so popular, but the whims of the public can be hard to explain....

That rock outcropping before the bench is called Tick Peak.I see that rope was still there, I was up on that peak a couple of years ago. 38th birthday Oat Mountain from the north attempt

I've had this hike on my to-do list for a while in one of my favorite areas around the San Fernando Valley: The north side of the Santa Susanna Mountains.
