Re: East Fork: Devil Gulch Falls and Iron Fork

Those are some great pictures and thanks for the trip report. I'm amazed by the amount of water flowing considering the area is in a Severe Drought condx right now. BTW, that rock with the strange texture (folds) can be seen on similar rocks along the Ice House Canyon Trail. I believe they are just ...

Re: Climate Change

Ask any warmist what temp. should the earth be and you'll get a different answer from everyone. There's no right or wrong answer because the earth's temp. has fluctuated a lot over its 4.5 billion year history. Should we be concerned about our environment, yes but we shouldn't send the human race ba...

Re: Daddy/Daughter Backpack Trip

Great report and thank you for getting your daughter interested in doing things outdoors. I introduced my daughter to hiking and the sorts at a young age too. We still get out and do hikes together now that she's almost 18. She asked me the other day where we were going hiking on her birthday later ...

Re: Plane Parts Above Gold Creek

That sure looks like the whole crank. Two pistons per connecting rod journal would equal a V12. Thanks for posting the better photo. Never seen the ...accident-report... web site before. I'll have to give it a close look at. Thanks for providing the link, it's now a favorite. At one time post crash ...

Re: Plane Parts Above Gold Creek

I took a closer look at the photo with the crank in it and now I think it is pretty much the complete crank. Put my glasses on this time.

As far as Macha's web site, I feel it's helpful but agree with you about it being difficult to find things. You're not doing anything wrong IMO.

Re: Plane Parts Above Gold Creek

Parts of the aluminum engine block can still be seen in one of the posted photos but it appears a good portion of it either melted away during a post crash fire or recent wild fire. The crank seen in the photo is about half of the whole crank, I count only 5 connecting rod journals and 4 main journa...

Re: Blue Ridge to Jackson Flats via Fish Fork.

Congratulations to those Scouts and their Leader, that's one tough hike/backpacking trip. It's really refreshing to see kids of their age doing things outdoors. So many kids don't get opportunities like that and unfortunately the only things they know is how many "likes" they have on Socia...

4 hikers rescued from ledge on Mt. Baldy

I read in the Press Enterprise today about 4 hiker getting stranded on a ledge while climbing up the Baldy Bowl on Sunday. Is there a ledge somewhere in the bowl? It's been awhile since I've been up there and don't recall one that would hold 4 people.

Re: CUCAMONGA PEAK ON 4TH OF JULY

Thanks for sharing your trip rpt. It brought back lots of good memories of being on the peak. I've never seen a single sole while being there but do remember the curious chipmunks. That drone would have been a real annoyance. Unfortunately we are probably going to see more and more of these in the w...

When I first saw the title of the thread I was thinking giant trees of the ANF. Sorry but I can't currently think of any giant person of the ANF. I'm sure there's many but I draw a blank right now.

Former RADAR, radio or some other type of tracking site I would guess. I looked on a topo map but couldn't find the location listed on mine.

Re: 2016-06-16 Bear Canyon sawyer

Thanks for all your hard work clearing trees and such across the trails. It wore me out watching the video. That's back breaking work cutting those trees with human powered saws! I'm curious though, why aren't gas powered saws used? Its not because of environmental reason is it because you mention u...

Re: Whale Peak Loop (Anza-Borrego)

Great photos and it looked like a fun adventure. However, why would your friend Cecelia mark up a rock with chalk? That's something I don't want to see when I'm out in the wilderness and it's illegal!

Is she wanting to be like Casey Nocket?

Please ask her to think twice next time. 8)

Re: Kellys Camp Spring (Ontario Peak Trail)

Today on my way to Bighorn Peak I stopped by both springs to check their flow. The flow out of the pipe remains unchanged from the last report. The flow from the spring without the pipe is very slow. I didn't measure its flow rate but it didn't take very long to fill its depression up after I cleare...

Re: Kellys Camp Spring (Ontario Peak Trail)

Today I hiked up Ice House Canyon to Kelly Camp and back. The weather was almost perfect. At Kelly Camp I stopped by both springs to check their flow. The main spring (the one with the PVC pipe) was flowing 350 ML per minute, down from 2 months ago when I checked it. The other one had a somewhat bet...

Kelly Camp Spring still flowing 8/19/11

On my way to Ontario and Bighorn Peaks today I stopped by to check the flow rate of the spring. It's flowing approx. a liter a minute. It was a great day for bagging some peaks. The weather was almost perfect, 64f on both peaks with very light winds. I was lucky enough to see lots deer today too. So...
