Pacific Coast Bike Race 750 - 2024
I'm running in the PCBR 750, the shorter version of the 1500 I did last year (which I'll do again September 2024). If you'd like to watch my progress, here be a link: https://trackleaders.com/pacificexpress24 It'll be an interesting race for me as I'm using a road bike with a fair bit of go-fast stu...

Re: Triplet Rocks via Bear Creek
I would be down to camp. Sunday monday sorta thing. I would likely be bringing some climbing gear for something I have my eye on there.

I do plan on doing something very similar. I think I'm down. I work Saturdays so I might be unable to go but if you're down for a Sunda-Monday or whatever.

Gracias.
Nate, it was snowing when I was napping at the trailhead, but I believe it stopped as we were hiking up. After that it was spindrift, just snow on the ground blown back into the air.

Re: Taco's Bike Thread
Holy crap, he has risen! How you likin' Nevada? I rode through Reno a year ago. Not bad for a city. The state outside the cities is great, so quiet. How did the bike get stolen? Also, this means you're riding a regular bike now, yes? I have completed the race bike build. I will post some stuff up ab...

Up GMR to Ridge to Baldy Road, met Dima at Wanker Flats, hike up, climb, get the hell off the very windy summit, hike down, ride home. 77 miles with 11,340ft of climbing over the course of 19 hours or so. Here's a link to last year's full moon Baldy Bikeaneering trip report: https://eispiraten.com/v...

Re: 20240217-19 Death Valley to Barstow
Dima, the road west of amboy leads to Barstow, which suck enough to not bother with. Plus you have to take the freeway to avoid the USMC logistics depot... and then you exit the freeway into Barstow. It would be better to never be in Barstow. It's a terrible place. The section east of Barstow is dam...

Nah it's just too much of a pain in the ass to take em from my phone and send em via email to myself, then open em on the computer and put em on here... just imagine it in your head!
Yep, I put it on strava. All the photos are on there, too, since I do everything from my phone.

20240217-19 Death Valley to Barstow
I'm gonna try something new that might not flow so great. I wrote the first part of this trip report on Strava right at the very end when I was waiting for Amanda to pick me up. I don't wanna go through it and modify it to fit where I am now (home), so I'll put it in here first in its entirety, foll...

Arright imma go up there in LA flatlander idiot gear, set a speed record and then *DEBUNK* all the propaganda that says you need proper gear and training. ;-) Man, that backpack says it all. With the Puma there I first thought it was a joke photo showing French Alpine dudes rescuing some randos in a...

Re: Taco's Bike Thread
I haven't ridden the SA saddle yet. The bike probably wont be done for a few more weeks. All of my leather saddles took time to break in, which meant butt pain and saddle sores, but eventually they were all comfortable. The synthetics I've used don't break in, and aren't comfy beyond 60 miles, which...

Taco's Bike Thread
I figured I'd make a thread about the bike stuff I do, the bikes I build, routes, all kindsa crap that doesn't fit anywhere else. Some of this is just a reference for me, but maybe you'll find it interesting. Much of this will be written in my usual style, where I just spit out what I'm thinking. I ...

Re: Bike riding: 2024/01 LA Tourist Race
I wanna rebuild yer bike and force you to accept my ways. I am thinking of doing one of the next tourist races. I get the bonus 70 miles for riding to and from the start. I have too many projects I wanna do. I've created projects for the Barstow Loop route, several Anza Borrego ones, a repeat of our...

I was eyeballing it from GMR today. Looked like it was near the little short road that's south of Soldier Creek near Crystal Lake.

Re: Bike riding: 2024/01 LA Tourist Race
Of course it's unsalvageable! I have a shitload of new housing. I think I need to overhaul your bike. I bet you need a lot of stuff done to it. Hubs probably need service, all cables/housings replaced, bottom bracket is probably nuked, got 8lbs of rust in the tubes, probably got a colony of rare spi...

The lowest falls in FF should be marked on a regular USGS map. That's the furthest you can go without some scrambling up around em and so forth. Not long after passing those you'll encounter more falls. I miss FF. Beautiful place. Nobody there. Great water. Very special place for me. Great photos of...

Re: 2023 Pacific Coast Bicycle Race 1500 - Portland to San Diego
Thanks guys. Yeah I tried Taco Bell a few times. I remember the one in Lompoc. The temperature outside was great but the sun was beating down so hard it felt much harder, and I had a bit of a sunburn. I chugged down some tubular items to gimme enough fuel to hit Santa Barbara. Stopped to fill up wat...

2023 Pacific Coast Bicycle Race 1500 - Portland to San Diego
I wrote a bit of a TR on this earlier as a rough draft and was thinking of how I was gonna do this. I've since thrown it out. I can't recall a lot of details because it was a long race, and often an exercise in sleep deprivation, so instead of the usual flow of a trip report like a sort of story I'm...

That's pretty dope. Nice job. Feels good to stop. I know that feeling... friggin Prairie Fork is a true pain in the ass, and then you pop out near Mine Gulch and gotta walk south. At least the sun wasn't out for that first part on the way to Fish Fork. I am planning on something roughly similar, tho...

Re: Probable Mt Baldy winter closures
I have my own recent jury duty story, but will pass on it. Looks like I might have triggered something by indicating that I care about Baldy, and am willing to submit to some regulation. As I said, I am opposed to closures. But talk of 'individual rights' is a bit overdone. As soon as you wheel out...
