Re: Echo->Castle Canyon->Idlehour->Mt. Wilson Toll Road

Nice write up. The good conditions on the Idle Hour trail are probably due to the recent working of it by runners of the Angeles Crest 100 Mile Endurance Run. Trail work is a requiremnt to run the race. They hit that section every year going down into Idle Hour. They also hit the other end leading f...

Re: Elmer Smith Bridge (Arroyo Seco / Gabrieleno Trail)

Thanks Grezer. A few months ago I looked up that address in an old phone book that I found at Pasadena's main library. Drove by and noticed it was up for sale. I did see the numerous citrus trees that you mentioned as well. If I recall from the obituary he was involved with some of the dam projects ...

Tent Recommendations / car camping

Hi All, Enjoy trail running and hiking. This spring/summer I'd like to do some car camping and I'm looking for a quality tent (simple, durable, and inexpensive.) Weight is not a concern to me. 1 or 2 person tent. Any suggestions on models or ideas on how to rig up a successful homemade one. Happy Tr...

Re: Eaton Canyon Rescue, it never grows old

Also had another interesting sighting that trip. And that would be a group of six or seven guys walking past my tent at 1:00 in the morning in the Mt. Williamson area, with no headlamps, on a use path, coming from a direction that only provided off trail access to the forest. First guy said "H...

Brown Mountain Road (2N66)

:?: Thinking of taking a small group on a trail run to the end of the Brown Mt Road (where it ends and meets Ken Burton). I haven't been up there since before the Station Fire. We would start at Devils Gate and do an out and back. Anyone been all the way to the end of the Brown Mt Road and can tell ...

I cannot help but say, If you like your access to Angeles National Forrest, you can keep your access to Angeles National Forrest. Politicians rarely act without a political donor calling the shots. I don't see how more people can get access and not have more trash, graffiti and pressure on limited ...

Great video Mike! It was good to meet you in person and shake your hand up at Newcombs Saddle. Once again I timed out at Idle Hour. The course is relentless! ITB issues and blisters were my downfall. I couldn't muster the mental strength to press on through the pain. Thanks for the support out there...

Mt Wilson to Victory Park via hang glider

Hi All,

Just curious - In my early 40s here and recall family trips up to Wilson to hike. I recall people jumping off from the parking lot. They landed at Victory Park Pasadena (I think).

Anyone else remember that? I wonder why they stopped? Safety? hahahaha!

Happy Trails!

Very cool. Thanks for sharing. I hit the hills for hiking and trail running during the day. Need to save some $$$$ and purchase some basic camping equipment. What a great way to end the day and then start a new one.
