Inspiration point (Blue Ridge) parking

Forgive me if search has failed me. Has anyone been here since they started charging for parking? Can you park for free on the other (Blue Ridge Rd) side?

I think the fire followed by the rain is the main story. The Sturtevant camp page has some info if you go backwards in time.

Bummer. As a gesture of goodwill, they should open that gate to the dam that got put in on weekends also.

I'm curious...what's the fixed point of reference?
Stable part of the North American plate, in this case.

Re: Gleason, Rocky, Messenger and Sold

Yes, it is! As it happens, I biked to the station at Keller Peak last weekend and saw the new sticker for the first time. You can see the URL here. The Earthscope project has ended and these stations (not all stations, but the ones we're talking about) are now known as Network of the Americas or NOT...

Fun fact: the station at Mt. Gleason relays data from the sites at Mt. Waterman and Chilao out to civilization via a station near Encino.

Now accepting applications for a concession special use permit

Anyone have an interpretation what are the implications for the future of day use parking at Vincent Gap, Inspiration Point, Grassy Hollow, Jackson Lake, and a couple others?

Thanks for the recon. It is a relief to see the spring (and the rest). I do believe I recall the scorching on that tree, so I think it's old.

Re: Chantry Flat area, trail work, 10/15

Thank you for posting. During the fire, I was haunted by the mental image of the Spruce Grove sign (and everything else) on fire. I'll be interested to know which cabins were unfortunately lost. And what happened on the other side of the Zion loop. I looked for the beginning of the Burma road a few ...

Super clean tanager

I was at Little Jimmy last week and had the good fortune to be snacking at the spring when this little guy came to bathe in the pool. He did a couple wash cycles, splooshing around in the water and then retreating to a tree to flap dry. ?

Re: New toilet at the old Tavern site

Boy, I go dormant for awhile and I miss important ANF toilet news! Appreciate the link to the toilettech site. My first reaction is if this replaces locked loos at high-usage campgrounds, then I'm for it. My concern is user compliance -- how many run away without pumping 5 times, and can it handle i...

Might have dropped a key ring with 2 small keys (like for a bike lock) near Grassy Hollow, either parked on the road across from the entrance, at the first picnic table after the gate, or somewhere between, 11 July 2020.

Awesome! Every once in a while, a colleague gets transferred to Palmdale and has to decide where to live. I always tell them Neil Armstrong figured that out decades ago. (I'd pop for indoor plumbing myself though).

Re: History question: Neil Armstrong's cabin in the SGs

No, I never uncovered anything more specific than Juniper Hills. The google trail did have some interesting reading though. Apparently his wife taught practically every kid in Juniper Hills how to swim. Someone had a scan of his completion certificate signed by her.
