Re: R2R v Ski Hut to top

R2R in 7.
R2R2R in 15:30.
Ski hut to summit, a bit under 2.

Edit...Manker to summit via ski hut: a bit over 2.

If you're good for 7 hours on your feet with plenty of elevation change, you'll be fine.

Re: Vincent Gulch Trail (East Fork)

Howdy all.
I've never done it.
Just wondering if the trailhead to get up to Vincent is obvious from the river or if there's anything tricky to look for.

Thanks.

Lower Eaton Canyoneering?

Anyone want to do lower Eaton from Idlehour this Saturday? I'm hoping to get on the trail long before the heat (0600 at the latest) to get to Idlehour pretty early. Would be down to go even earlier than that....

Want to do the canyon fairly fast, not looking to be out the entire day....

Cheers.

Any recent trips (canyoneering) down Eaton?

Looking to see if there's any recent beta concerning anchors and general conditions (Dropping down from Henninger). Thinking about hitting it this Saturday.
Thanks.

Re: 20140105 Strawberry Peak North Face

Bold!
There are certainly harder climbs out there, but Strawberry strikes me as flat out dangerous. Good to hear rockfall didn't get anybody!

I still have a pair of climbing shoes in size 12 you can have if you need them...we never quite worked that out.

Anyhow, cool stuff man.

Re: Baldy Bowl and Ski Hut Trail

I climbed it this morning via the Ski Hut trail. There was a small stretch of snow/ice on the north slope just above the ski hut, but otherwise everything is really dry. Only used microspikes descending (to go faster). Climbed Baden-Powell Saturday. Huge difference- postholing and powder for 6 hours...

Everyday is tough!
Glad we didn't get blown off the cliffs or have to bivy in an outhouse. It was a pleasure being out there with you.
Longcut, you're a gentleman and scholar.

Until next time, friends.

Re: Gabrielino Trail (Big Santa Anita - West Fork - Arroyo Seco)

I run the lower Arroyo to the debris dam a lot. I was there two days ago. I poked around a bit at the trail junction to get over the dam (at Paul Little) and the trail is pretty much non-existent. The whole area has been covered by fallen rock, dirt, and vegetation. Now you can see some of the trail...

Re: Gabrielino in a day, or not

I was the other guy out there with longcut. Yeah, we probably saw you at Valley Forge, Marty, I remember seeing a few tents. We were the guys jogging by wearing trash bags and freezing while you were probably warm, dry, and well fed in a tent. I've run/hiked the Gabrielino in the past with 60%...

Re: Silver Moccasin Trail

Gary Valle was kind enough to get back to me with some general info on the area: "I regularly run the following sections and wouldn’t expect any out of the ordinary issues, except of course possible snow/ice and bad weather: Three Points to Cloudburst Summit via Pacific Crest Trail Cloudburst S...

Thank you all for the information so far...I'm surprised I haven't gotten involved with this site sooner. I've been on the phone with both Los Angeles and San Gabriel River ranger districts today, as well as he main headquarters. Two out of the three people I talked to weren't even sure what or wher...

Re: Silver Moccasin Trail

Hello all, First time posting or visiting this site, but I anticipate getting more involved. I'm a resident of Altadena...avid distance trail runner and ultralight backpacker. The San Gabriels are my home playground. Anyhow, I'm looking for current trail info for the Silver Moccasin. I'd like to do ...
