There is never a dull moment with my Wild Wednesday group. We drove to Rose Valley and started our hike near Lion Canyon Campground in the Los Padres NF. The plan was to find some waterfalls and pools on this very hot day. The entire area was beautiful. As we were driving towards the trailhead we could see lots of poodle dog and Spanish broom in areas affected by the Thomas Fire. We began hiking on a nice trail, but soon it became overgrown, so we scrambled down into the canyon to get to the falls. There was lots of PO and tons of PD. On the return, we decided to follow the creek back to the campground, but it wasn't the best idea. Some of the water was waist deep. We had to walk through lots of crap like algae, downed trees, tall grass, and we had to carefully hop over slippery rocks. We saw two water snakes and one on the trail. Despite the junk in the water, it was the best way to keep cool and avoid the climb back to our cars. I was badly impaled by a tree branch under my arm while walking in the creek. We were supposed to check out Rose Valley Falls, but we ran out of time having too much fun with all the water fights.

Waterfall number 2, much smaller but with a cool cave.

In June the poodle dog bush blooms.
Its purple flowers entice
both bugs and humans alike.
And soon the people itch, scratch, ooze,
while bees and butterflies thrive.

Was that supposed to be a rhyme?

It was. But I forgot that you can only hear the rhymes that land more perfectly upon your ear.
