On Wednesday I drove to San Marcos. The plan was to hike to Mt. Whitney. It's the tallest peak in San Marcos at 1700'. Our plans were quickly changed by a grumpy homeowner who decided to enforce his property rights after letting hikers use the trail on his land for the last 23 years. We had a plan B. There are a few small peaks in the area. We began our trek on the Ridgeline Trail and hiked to the summit of San Marcos.

This trail consisted of fire roads and steep, rocky singletracks that went through a neighborhood. No benchmark but some towers were at the summit.

We returned the same way but took a slight detour up a steep firebreak to Double Peaks. This was a pretty cool summit. It had a telescope and awesome views of the Channel Islands. There was no benchmark but there was a famous, pretty olive tree that apparently can be seen from miles away.

After hiking both peaks the hard way, we found out that one can just drive up to both summits. Anyways, we got a good workout.

Stats: 8 miles, 1300'gain
