Found this cool mushroom that resembled a heart along the PCT trail to Eagle Rock

My guess without seeing more is that it is a fomitopsis, possibly species cajanderi. Nice find, a pretty mushroom

I am getting into fungi and stuff. I'm growing Portabella mushrooms from a kit and learning to forage.

I can tell you that is probably a mushroom. You're welcome. ;)

Taco, the Los Angeles Mycological Society is having its annual fair virtual this year. It is on the 14th and there will be a session on growing mushrooms. I think the information is up on the website now.

I would like to attend one of the in person ones next chance I get with my girl. She got me into mushrooms. Now we are mega hard into em. Hopefully that happens soon enough.

I'll likely be in the middle of nowhere on the 14th, praying to the gods of vast open areas. Cheers!

nice finds. It's been pretty sad for mushrooms out here on the westside at least--not much rain this year. Anyone else having much luck?

After the last big storm a whole family of shrooms popped up in my yard.

What would happen if I ate these?

This is not a mushroom that I know off hand. Also would want a clear view of the stalk and the gills. But to answer your question one or more of the following three things
1. you will die
2. you will wish you were dead
3. you will have eaten a mushroom that is not tasty
so a very bad idea

yeah, like Jerry said a better pic of the stem and underside of the cap would help with an ID, but doesn't look like anything obviously edible...
