They had just scrambled off the trail to get away from me, and were looking back, waiting for me to leave so they could hop back on the trail. Mama has that look, like, "Any day now, dipshit. Move along, dork." And baby is all, "You tell'em, mama!"

The bears have lighter-colored, almost brown fur. Not really black. Is that common for black bears in the San Gabes?

Genetic mutations primarily found in Western black bears that is probably prevalent for camouflage purposes.

Thats the benefit of sassquatch. But the longer she figures out that you are a pretender and touron and not a fierce thing.....bad things can happen. Or thats what a ranger told me.

When I hike alone on trails that are not well used, I now carry bear spray. I probably should learn how to use it, right?

Thanks for the answer, David... brown camouflage makes sense in our climate and geology.
