Re: Hikers find bomb in San Diego

Mission Trails Regional Park is perhaps the most popular hiking area in San Diego County and came into existence after Camp Elliot closed. Discoveries of unexploded ordnance in that area are common. http://www.campelliott-missiontrails.com/ http://www.campelliott-tierrasanta.com/post_closure.php . ....

Re: Baldy & Three Ts 8/8/09

Hey Rob! I was on the summit from about 10:15-10:45. Which way did you come up? Arrived 10:38 on Ski Hut Trail, tagged summit plaque, and helped a couple of people with photos. Departed 11:10 via Devils Backbone, caught up with a father-son team, and took service road down. Although I planned a sim...

Yup, perfect hiking weather on Baldy today. (I was on the summit ~10:45.)

On my way in and out, I noted that parking in Baldy Village was competitive today.

Gonna have to agree with Jim here. Coming down towards the 57/210 interchange and stopping at In N Out after a good long hike is all the recovery one needs that's definitely my 'go to' post hike meal :P At In-N-Out, after a strenuous hike, first I have to climb out of my car (with stiff muscles, it...

If you can't join a SAR team (for whatever reason), find out if there is a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) in your neighborhood.

I'm hoping that upgrading memory might let me save all tracks. I upgraded from 64MB to 2GB and learned that more memory does NOT let me save all tracks. It seems that most Garmin units have a limit of 20 tracks, and installing larger memory cards does NOT change that limit. Memory cards store maps,...

Do be aware that the road to the Fish Creek trailhead is a dirt road. I got my Honda Accord up and down it w/o a problem, but you have to take it slow. I think it took me about 45 minutes to an hour to drive from Hwy 38 to the trailhead. It would be important to factor that extra drive time in to y...
